There is one full-length movie associated with the cult classic television series Blue Mountain State: Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland, released in 2016. While there have been rumors and desires for more, this remains the sole cinematic entry expanding upon the world of BMS.
Beyond the Series: Unpacking The Rise of Thadland
Blue Mountain State, the television series, ran for three seasons from 2010 to 2011. Its blend of raunchy humor, college football antics, and unforgettable characters cultivated a devoted fanbase. The premature cancellation of the show sparked outrage and a determined effort to revive the franchise, ultimately leading to the creation of the movie. The Rise of Thadland acts as a direct sequel to the series, continuing the narrative and offering closure to many storylines left unresolved by the cancellation. It’s crucial to remember that while the series holds a special place in many hearts, its length doesn’t translate to a plethora of movies; it’s the series that spawned one direct sequel film.
Why Only One Movie?
The journey to The Rise of Thadland wasn’t easy. Following the show’s cancellation, fans launched a vigorous campaign, including a Kickstarter project, to fund a movie. The success of this crowdfunding effort demonstrated the strong demand for more Blue Mountain State. However, producing a film is a significantly larger undertaking than producing a television episode. Securing funding, coordinating schedules of the original cast, and navigating the complexities of film production all contributed to the fact that only one movie materialized. While the door isn’t definitively closed on future projects, as of today, The Rise of Thadland remains the singular cinematic extension of the BMS universe.
