New episodes of House of the Dragon typically become available on HBO Max at 9:00 PM Eastern Time (ET) on Sundays. This simulcast aligns with the traditional HBO cable broadcast, ensuring viewers across different platforms can experience the Targaryen saga together.
Understanding House of the Dragon Release Times
The anticipation surrounding new episodes of House of the Dragon is palpable. Knowing exactly when to tune in is crucial for dedicated fans. The release schedule follows a consistent pattern, but understanding the nuances can help avoid any last-minute confusion.
HBO Max vs. Cable Broadcast
While HBO Max offers the convenience of streaming, the premiere time mirrors the traditional HBO cable broadcast. This means no early access for streaming subscribers. Everyone gets the episode at the same time. This standardized release aims to maintain a shared cultural moment and discourage spoilers.
Time Zone Considerations
The 9:00 PM ET release time translates differently across various time zones. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Pacific Time (PT): 6:00 PM
- Mountain Time (MT): 7:00 PM
- Central Time (CT): 8:00 PM
- Atlantic Time (AT): 10:00 PM
- Greenwich Mean Time (GMT): 1:00 AM (Monday)
Always double-check your local time zone to ensure you don’t miss the premiere. Using a time zone converter can be helpful.
Potential for Schedule Changes
Although unlikely, there’s always a small possibility of schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances. It’s recommended to check HBO Max’s official social media channels (Twitter, Facebook) or the HBO website on the day of the release for any potential updates. Historically, HBO has been extremely reliable with its premiere times, but staying informed is always prudent.

Maximizing Viewership
The 9:00 PM ET slot is strategically chosen to maximize viewership across the United States. It falls within primetime hours, allowing a large portion of the population to tune in after dinner and other evening activities.
Combating Spoilers
A coordinated release across platforms minimizes the risk of spoilers. By ensuring everyone has access to the episode at the same time, HBO aims to foster a shared experience and prevent early leaks from ruining the viewing for others.
